The world is demanding cleaner and greener products. From what we put in our bodies, to how we produce and package food, to how we protect our precious soil, water and other resources. This demand represents a $1 trillion opportunity across a range of industries, which Canada’s agriculture sector is well positioned to seize.

This week, Shelley King, CEO of Natural Products Canada, delivered an address to the audience at the Agriculture Innovation Council Spring Engagement Session, comprised of industry, government, and not for profit organizations all focused on helping Canada leverage its immense agri-food resources. King outlined NPC’s comprehensive and collaborative approach to commercialization, which has helped advance over 1000 Canadian natural products. She described NPC’s key activities, including Advisory Services, Commercialization Programs, Cluster Building Initiatives, and Innovation Hub, and how they rely on collaborative and cooperative partnerships with a diverse array of stakeholders up and down the value chain.
King also discussed NPC’s approach to start-up capital, including NPC’s investment in 13 Canadian start-ups, and the new fund, NPC Ventures. King also outlined the value of corporate and investment partners, which have played a critical role in NPC’s ability to accelerate innovation while leveraging Canadian tax dollars by a ratio of over $16 to $1.
